Cheap towing in Jersey City, NJ: straight answers to the money questions
Find your question and call if you still need to. These are the answers the dispatcher gives on the phone, including the ones about cost.
Everything Jersey City drivers ask before booking a low-cost tow
$149 by phone or $129 online, miles from your car to your shop, no night or storage charges, the cheaper roadside fix offered first, and nothing to join.
What's the least I can pay for a tow in Jersey City?
Book online so the booking fee is $129 rather than $149, send the car to a garage near where it stopped, and describe the symptom plainly. If it turns out to be a battery, a flat or a lockout, you pay one flat roadside price and skip the tow entirely.
Your yard is in Linden. Am I paying for the drive up to Jersey City?
No. The truck is about 28 minutes away, and that drive is our cost. Miles on your receipt are counted from where your car sits to the place you send it, so a short hop across the Heights stays a short number.
How is the price of a Jersey City tow worked out?
A flat $149 booking fee ($129 online) for the truck and loading, plus miles from pickup to drop-off, quoted before dispatch. Dollies or a winch are added only when the car cannot roll or steer, and you hear that figure first. The pricing page spells it out.
My car is on level three of a garage at Newport. Will that cost more?
It can, if the deck is too low for the truck and the car must come out on dollies. Give the garage name and the level on the call and that work is priced into the quote, not added at the ramp.
It just clicks when I turn the key at the Journal Square lot. Do I need a tow?
Probably not. A click after a long day parked is almost always the battery, and a jump start is one flat price with no miles. If the battery will not hold, the tow is added on the spot with no second trip charge.
Why do you send a wheel-lift instead of a flatbed sometimes?
Because it costs less to run and fits the narrow Heights and Paulus Hook blocks. It is only used on cars that roll and steer and are not AWD or electric. Anything else rides a flatbed, since damage to the drivetrain would wipe out any saving.
I got hit near the Holland Tunnel. How do I keep the bill from growing?
Call your own truck right away and name the body shop before the car leaves the scene. A rotation truck will usually take it to a storage yard, where daily charges and a release fee start. Ours goes straight to your shop.
Do nights, Sundays or snow days raise the price?
No. The booking fee and the miles are identical at every hour and in every season. A 2 a.m. call during a snowstorm is quoted exactly like a Tuesday lunch-hour call.
Is a tow cheaper if my car dies near Route 440?
Almost anywhere along it. Repair bays and tire shops line the corridor from the Bayonne line past the Hudson Mall, so a car that dies in a plaza lot often travels only a few blocks. Ask the dispatcher which garages are closest; the choice stays yours.
Do you charge for storage if my shop is closed when we arrive?
We do not park cars in a lot of ours. Most Jersey City shops accept a night drop, and the driver leaves the keys the way the shop asks. If none will take it, the dispatcher helps you pick a drop-off, such as your own curb, before the truck rolls.
Can one of my passengers ride in the truck to save a cab to the shop?
Yes, one or two ride free in the cab. For a bigger group tell the dispatcher on the call so nobody is left waiting beside the road.
Is cash cheaper than paying by card?
No, it is the same figure. Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover, Apple Pay, Google Pay or cash, paid when the car is delivered.
Does my roadside plan or insurance have to be involved?
No. Anyone can pay the quoted price directly. If your policy or plan covers towing, pay us, keep the itemized receipt and file it for reimbursement, which often makes the tow cost you nothing.
I run delivery vans out of Greenville. Is there a cheaper way than paying per call?
Yes. A fleet account gives you a direct line and a single monthly invoice on net terms. It saves paperwork and keeps every tow at the same agreed rate.
My car broke down on the Turnpike Extension near 14B. What happens to the cost?
On the New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway the shoulder itself is served by the Turnpike Authority's authorized garages; book with us anyway, and once the authorized truck has the car off the highway we take it from the exit or the garage's lot to the shop or driveway you choose, at the same flat quoted price. Booking us before their tow is finished is what stops the car from sitting in their lot overnight.
Is it cheaper to tow my car to Bayonne or Kearny instead of a Jersey City shop?
It depends only on distance. Hoboken, Bayonne, Kearny, Secaucus, North Bergen and Union City all carry the same booking fee; if the shop there is closer to your car than one in the city, it is the cheaper tow.
Will the driver try to change the price once he arrives?
Only if he finds something the call did not mention, such as wheels locked hard or a car wedged against a pole. He tells you the added figure before starting, and you can decline it.
Can I get a cheap tow for my motorcycle in Jersey City?
Yes. Bikes ride a flatbed with a wheel chock and soft straps, at the same booking fee plus miles. Scooters parked downtown, sport bikes off Route 440 and cruisers that sat all winter in a Heights garage all qualify.
My car ran out of gas on JFK Boulevard. Do you tow it to a station?
No need. Fuel delivery is one flat price, and we bring enough gas or diesel to reach the next station. It costs far less than towing a car that only needs fuel.
Can I book a cheap tow ahead of time instead of calling?
Yes. The booking page takes the pickup, destination, vehicle and preferred window, and the fee drops to $129. If the car is blocking traffic right now, phoning is faster.
Do you hire tow truck drivers who live in Hudson County?
Yes. Openings for flatbed and wheel-lift drivers, owner-operators and roadside techs are posted on the driver jobs page.
