Cheap towing in the Jersey City Heights: narrow blocks, steep grades and the lower-cost wheel-lift
Central Avenue, Palisade Avenue, Congress Street, Riverview Park, Pershing Field and the streets that drop toward Route 139 and Tonnelle Avenue. Tight curbs decide which truck fits, and that truck decides the cost.
Why the wheel-lift is often the cheap answer in the Jersey City Heights
On the Heights' narrow two-way and one-way blocks a wheel-lift fits where a long flatbed would block the street, hooks up faster and costs less to run, so front-wheel-drive cars that still roll usually go that way for the $149 booking fee, or $129 if you book online, plus miles; AWD, electric and damaged cars still ride a flatbed.
The blocks between Central and Palisade
Two- and three-family houses, cars on both curbs and barely room for one lane. A wheel-lift slides in, lifts the drive wheels and leaves without shutting the block.
Tell dispatch what you drive. If it is AWD or electric, a flatbed comes and loads from the nearest corner instead.
Christ Hospital and Palisade Avenue
Staff and visitor cars in the hospital lots at shift change. Batteries more than anything else, and a jump is the cheaper job.
Give the lot and level. If the car needs a tow, the driver meets you at the lot entrance.
The steep streets toward Route 139 and Tonnelle
The grades falling west off the ridge get slick first in winter. A slide into a curb is a winch-out, and if the car drives off afterward, that is the whole bill.
Parking on a grade with a dead battery is also common. Chock the wheels, say it is on a hill, and the driver comes prepared.
Central Avenue shops, Riverview Park and Pershing Field
Storefronts, bus stops and double-parked deliveries along Central Avenue, plus the park edges. Flats, lockouts and stalls at the lights.
A garage on or near Central Avenue keeps the tow short. A car headed into Union City or North Bergen is a local run at the same fee.

Call nowThe Heights: common questions
Short answers to what people ask about this page; the dispatcher can answer the rest.
Is a wheel-lift really cheaper than a flatbed?
It costs less to run and hooks up faster, so yes, when the car can ride on it. AWD, electric, lowered and crash-damaged cars need a flatbed.
Can a truck even fit on my Heights block?
A wheel-lift nearly always can. If a flatbed is needed, the car is brought to the nearest corner wide enough to load.
My car slid into the curb on an icy hill. Is that a tow?
Often it is only a winch-out. If the car drives normally afterward, you pay for the pull and nothing else.
Is the Heights farther from your yard?
It is the north end, so the wait from Linden can run a little over 28 minutes. The price does not change, because miles start at your car.
