Cheap towing prices in Jersey City, NJ: what the $149 covers, when it becomes $129, and what is never added
If you are comparing prices, start with the full formula. Here is the fixed booking fee, how miles are counted, what the roadside jobs cost, and the long list of charges that never appear on a receipt from us.
A Jersey City tow in two lines: the booking fee and the miles to your garage
Each Jersey City tow is the flat $149 booking fee ($129 booked online) plus miles from the car to the destination you pick, both quoted before dispatch, with dolly or winch work added only when the car cannot roll and only after you agree.
| What | Price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Booking fee by phone | $149 | Dispatch and hook-up, any hour |
| Booking fee online | $129 | $20 off when you book it yourself |
| Mileage to your destination | Quoted on the call | Before the truck moves. You pick the shop. |
| Jump start · tire · lockout · fuel | One flat price each | No mileage. Tried first when it can solve it. |
| Winch or dollies | Only if the car will not roll | Named before the work, you decide |
| Night, weekend, holiday, fuel surcharge | None | 3 a.m. costs what 3 p.m. costs |
| Storage or release fee | None | The car goes to your shop, not a yard |
Line one: $149 by phone, $129 online
A fixed charge for sending the truck and loading the car, identical at every hour. Phoning a dispatcher makes it $149; filling in the booking form yourself makes it $129.
It covers a wheel-lift or flatbed for a car, SUV or pickup. Vans, box trucks and buses need a larger truck and get their own quote.
Line two: miles, counted from your car
The truck comes from Linden, about 28 minutes away, but that trip is not billed. Miles start where the car is and stop where you send it.
Inside Jersey City or into a neighboring town that is a small figure, and smaller still when the garage is near the pickup. Out-of-state and shore runs are quoted as a long distance tow with tolls built in.
Sometimes a third line: dollies or a winch
Needed when a car is stuck in a low deck, locked with the wheels turned, sitting in water or off the pavement. Most of the time the dispatcher hears it on the call and includes it.
If the driver discovers it at the car, he names the cost before starting. You can say no.
Lines that never appear
No after-dark rate, no weekend rate, no holiday rate. No fuel charge.
No separate hook-up fee and no charge for a rider. No storage on a delivered car and no release fee.
No card surcharge and no fee for calling to ask what it would cost.
Give the pickup, the drop-off and the vehicle, and you have the exact figure.

A jump start, a spare-tire change, a lockout or a fuel delivery in Jersey City is one flat price with no miles attached, and since so many no-start calls are one of those four, the tow often never happens.
Jump start
A battery that gave out in a PATH commuter lot, a hospital deck or a Heights curb. Packs for cars, trucks and diesels. If it will not hold, the tow is added with no second trip.
Spare tire
Your spare goes on where you stopped. No usable spare means a short tow to a tire shop on Route 440 or West Side Avenue.
Lockout
Keys locked in at Newport Centre, a Grove Street curb or a Liberty State Park lot. Opened with proper tools, never a broken window.
Fuel
Ran dry on JFK Boulevard, Route 440 or the Skyway approach. Enough gas or diesel to reach a station.
How to compare cheap towing quotes in Jersey City
A usable Jersey City quote names the booking fee, the miles and the destination; if any one of those three is missing, the real price will be decided at the curb, when saying no is hardest.
Ask every company the same three things. Does the booking fee include loading? How are miles counted, and from where?
Where does the car go tonight? Clear answers mean a real quote; hedging means the final figure is still being written.
Our answers: $149 or $129 online with loading included, miles from your car to your destination, and your shop or your curb as the only drop-off.
Watch the garage question too. In Downtown and Newport decks, a company that never asks for the level is likely to add dolly work once it arrives.
If a plan or an insurer covers your tow, paying us and filing the itemized receipt is often the cheapest route of all. The receipt is laid out for reimbursement desks.
Ask for our three answers. They cost nothing and they do not change at night.

Short answers to what people ask about this page; the dispatcher can answer the rest.
Does $149 cover the whole tow?
It covers sending the truck and loading the car. Miles to your destination are added and quoted before dispatch. Nothing else is standard.
How do I get the $129 fee?
Book through the online form instead of calling. You keep the $20 that the dispatcher's time would have cost. If you are on a busy road, call anyway.
Are the miles counted from Linden?
No. They are counted from where your car is to where it is going. The drive up from Linden is not on your bill.
Do garage decks cost more?
Only when the ceiling is too low and dollies are needed. Give the garage and level on the call and it is in the quote.
Is there a storage fee?
Not on a car delivered to your shop, dealer or curb, which is where our tows end. We do not keep a storage lot.
Will my insurer accept your receipt?
Yes. It is itemized with the booking fee, miles and any recovery work, on paper or by email.
Anything else? Ask on the call.
